Mother Knows Best

Mother Nature says its time to play golf

Even though the calendar says it's only the first week of March and still technically winter, the Chicago area has seen February's arctic conditions quickly replaced by record setting warm weather. Consistent day time temps in the 60s made quick work of the 2 feet of snow and frozen ponds we had less than 2 weeks ago.

Soil temps are quickly rising which means it's time to kick our agronomic plan into gear. We conducted our first mow on greens today, a full 2 weeks earlier than last year, and will continue with additional mowing of greens and tees next week. Our first pesticide spray application is planned for next week, as well.

The tree trimming that was performed during the winter months on holes 11 thru 18 is nearly finished with only a handful of trees left to be limbed up. With the snow gone and the ground firming up, the cleanup phase has begun. With key members of our grounds crew back to work, we will see all limbs and stumps removed from the property by the middle of next week.

Overall course cleanup is top priority with an emphasis on readying all playing surfaces for the expected unofficial beginning of the Eagle Brook Country Club 2021 golf season sometime next week.

HERE WE GO!!
